The Goodwood Festival of Speed is now a highly-anticipated yearly event in the United Kingdom. Based in West Sussex, England, on the estate of the Goodwood House, the FoS (as it is commonly abbreviated) hosts a hill climb that features historic motor racing vehicles. In addition to the cars and motorbikes that compete, the event also draws many icons, past and present, of motor racing.
Lord March, as he is formally known, founded the FoS in 1993. He hoped to bring back motorsports to the Goodwood Circuit, a place entrenched in British motor racing history; however, he lacked the necessary permits to host racing there. He decided to organize the inaugural Festival of Speed on his own grounds. Lord March invited a select group of historic vehicles and, despite clashing with the 24 Hours of LeMans that year, approximately 25,000 people attended. The years that followed, he guaranteed that the event would not coincide with other races, so both fans and racing teams could partake in the, now, two-day fest.
The FoS now draws an average of 150,000 car enthusiasts.
If you’re interested in attending the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, you’ll need to act quickly; this year’s event will run from June 26 until June 29.
At this point, you may be wondering why Maserati of Raleigh is interested in this festival. The answer is simple: the Maserati MC12 GTI. This model is one of the most accomplished cars in endurance racing and boasts multiple victories while competing in the original FIA GT series. It houses a 6.0-liter V12 that cranks out 540 horsepower and can rocket to 62 MPH from rest in a mere 3.6 seconds.
