Though it may be a smaller show, the Geneva Motor Show is still a very big deal. In fact, the only reason it probably isn’t given more attention here is because it falls between the Detroit and New York shows, and we Americans can be a little bit (read: very) self-centered.
The show in Geneva has been running for eighty-five years now, and it’s really turned into a celebration of design. Any brand that matters will definitely have something special to show off. If you have a good memory, you know that last year, Maserati revealed the Alfieri Concept at the Swiss show, drawing universal laudation and kicking off a year of centennial celebration.
Even a year later, people are still talking about the Alfieri, and perhaps more remarkably, they’re still giving it awards. Last week, Car Design News honored the Alfieri Concept with the award for “2014 Concept Car of the Year.” Owen Ready, editor of the magazine had this to say about the recognition:
“The design of sports cars with fine volumes and beautiful proportions is something Italian car design has long excelled at, but the Alfieri’s more contemporary design elements have been executed with impeccable judgement. The result is a classic Italian sports car which is utterly modern.”
The Alfieri Concept has been confirmed as a 2017 production model, with a cabriolet variant to follow. It is named for the foremost Maserati brother and was designed by Lorenzo Ramaciotti and Marco Tencone of the Centro Stile in Turin. The designers were in Geneva to accept the award last Tuesday.
We urge all those from Cary who are interested in Italy’s finest to visit us in our showroom. Maserati of Raleigh brings the absolute opposite of ordinary a little bit closer to you.
