2017 GranTurismo Will Not Have GranCabrio Variant

We’ve previously discussed how this will be the last year of production for the current GranTurismo. The next GT will feature a 2017 model year designation, and today we have a new detail about that model which may affect some of you who are interested in it.

The 2017 Maserati GranTurismo will only be available as a hard top coupe. There will not be a convertible version offered of this vaunted four-seater. Reports also indicate that the new GT will be smaller than the current model, which has been available for nearly ten years at this point. Great car though it is, we can’t argue it’s in need of an update and probably a slimming down as well.

If you’re looking for a Maserati convertible in the near future, don’t be too dismayed. Remember that the much-celebrated Alfieri Concept will be going into production in the intermediate period and that car will be available as a convertible in addition to a coupe.

Generally speaking, automakers seem to be trending away from convertibles. It’s not like the old days where practically any car you could buy would also come as a droptop. Now many brands have one or two cars that let you roll the roof back and feel the wind blowing through your hair. We bring this up not to apologize, but as a means of quieting any alarms that might be going off in your head. For the most enthusiastic convertible connoisseurs, this just means your choices are becoming easier.

That said, if you have to have a four-seat convertible Maserati, we still have the 2015 GranTurismo Convertible available in our inventory right now at Maserati of Raleigh. Whether you’re coming from Raleigh, Cary, or Durham, our dealership is your best choice for everything to do with the trident marque. We look forward to your visit.
